O'Neil She was still in high school years when she took part in the auditions, tried out for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. She made it into the top 100 because of the enthusiasm shown by judges for her performances. O'Neil received excellent praise from the judges. However, she was a victim of significant loss during the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, when she was put to the bottom three or the bottom two spots as well as the bottom two. The judges were awed by her performance, and recommended viewers to select singers who were well-known and had a strong voice, like Melissa. O'Neil's performances were such awe-inspiring that she was never in the lower three in the future. O'Neil and her fellow contestants Rex Goudie and Werner presented two incredible performances in September of 2005. Werner reportedly said that the headlines would state that O'Neil was able to defeat Goudie and become the third Canadian Idol. She was the first female, and youngest winner in the time of the show. O'Neil received a phone call right away from Canadian PM Paul Martin, congratulating on her victory on Canadian Idol.
